Hendrik de Fromantiou was born in Maastricht. He was influenced by Willem van Aelst. From 1658, he was active in Amsterdam, In 1670, he was appointed as court-painter to Friedrich Wilhelm, Elector of Brandenburg, where he also worked for his son Friedrich III. In 1672 he married Luduwina, the daughter of the rich and fellow Dutch painter Philips Wouwerman. Besides flower still lives, De Fromantiou painted hunting still lives, often with a hanging partridge. Louis Michiels was a follower of De Fromantiou.
