At PAN Amsterdam the Gorcums Museum, located in the historical fortress town of Gorinchem, acquired a painting by the painter Jan Olis, who was born in Gorinchem around the year 1610. The Gorcums Museum houses a collection of art from Gorinchem, ranging from the 17th century to contemporary times. Its collection compromises paintings by renowned 17th century masters such as Abraham Bloemaert, Aert van der Neer and Jan Meerhout. The paintings made by Gorcum-born artists are collected and researched by the Stichting Gouden Eeuw Gorinchem and exhibited in the museum.
During the attribution research of the “Portrait of a man dressed as a shepherd”, a signed so-called ‘tronie’ by Jan Olis which was already in the collection of the Gorcums Museum served as the primary indicator. Now the two tronies hang side by side, among works made by townsmen and contemporaries of Jan Olis. Apart from sticking resemblances – even in the physiognomy of the two men – the work formally in our collection demonstrates a remarkable dynamic pose and a features bright colours. The condition is remarkably good, this hardly no restorations and well preserved impasto’s and brushstrokes.
At 19 December, the painting was officially unveiled by the Municipal Councillor Mrs Trix van der Torren and the donator Mr Dick van Zanten, director of Housing Corporation Poort 6. Drs. Bert Biemans, curator and chairman of Stichting Gouden Eeuw Gorinchem, and Floris van Wanroij gave a short presentation.

Floris van Wanroij Fine Art sells an important late gothic chalice to the Erzbischöflichen Ordinariat München. The chalice was made in the first quarter of the 16th century in the south German City of Wasserburg, in late medieval times an important centre for the production of silver. The silver chalice is marked on the base with the mark of the City of Wasserburg and dated '1525'. The chalice originates from the Chruch of Mariä Himmelfahrt, in Schnaitsee (Germany), located very near to Wasserburg. The Archdioceses of Munich has acquired the piece, but it will most likely be returned to Schnaitsee.
