CATALOGUE NOTE
This highly interesting and very fine sculpture was carved in the end of the 15th century, round 1480 – 1490. The centre from which it originates however is very difficult to locate with accuracy. The physiognomy of the Virgin demonstrates stylistic elements that are typical for the Lower Rhine region or Eastern Netherlands. But also Brabant and Limburg influences are apparent. This high quality sculpture may have been produces by a sculptor who has been active in several regions of centres, which would account for this unique hybrid style.
